WomensPixels.com

A friend of mine and a couple of her cohorts has launched a billboard style advertisement based website called www.womenspixels.com. Those business which are at least 50% women-owned can buy very affordable ad space by the pixel.

The group is promoting the site as a way to advertise your product or service to other women, as a place to network and find potential business collaborators. Article submissions are also accepted by womenspixels.com, and they donate a portion of their net proceeds to women’s charities (not specified on the site).

An interesting experiment, I wonder how it will be received? As a long time member of a locally based women’s networking organization, I think that gender specific organizations have a place but in my experience, there is less business to be gleaned through these affiliations than when your networking efforts extend to both genders. For people just starting out in business, this kind of approach may appear more supportive and a good arena for testing your marketing message.

If you target market isn’t interested or represented, however, a women’s only group may not get you the exposure you need. So, if the price is right but the focus isn’t who you’re trying to reach, don’t spend your money.

Keep an eye on this project, however. The people behind it have a good idea.
