iPod Survival Story

Chug-chug-chug… conquering insurmountable odds, two very special little iPods deserve special commendations.

My ddil (dear daughter in law) Skyla told me today that she and our son finally broke down and bought a refurbished Shuffle. They had it for only a few months when SOMEONE forgot to check all the pockets before doing laundry and the dear little thing got washed and dried before being pronounced dead.

Some weeks passed and, now hooked on these devices, Skyla and her husband bought a brand new Shuffle and, in less than a week, the same thing happened.

Can this marriage be saved? What about the iPods – is there anyway to resurrect them???

Skyla finally decided to call Apple and get better acquainted with the terms of her warranty when, at the last second, she thought she would just plug the first one into the charger and see what happened.

Lo and behold, it came back to life! In that moment of clarity, she ran to recharge the second Shuffle and, miracle of miracles, it, too breathes once more.

Is there some kind of contest these people can win? Or would Apple want to talk to them about using this testimonial in some future ad campaign, after the PC and Mac guy run their course?? It’s like those old American Tourister luggage ads (but you have to be over 45 to know what I’m talking about there).

Let’s hear it for indestructible media devices! I’d LOVE to hear if anybody else has had any similar mishaps that weren’t.

On a related note, here’s the story of a pink iPod that was dropped down a toilet and cost Santa Clara University thousands in plumbing fees and took months to extricate from the pipe where it ended up. No word if it’s still working… or if anyone tried to fire it up.
