April Series: Answering the Question “Who ARE You?”
As you blog, have you ever wanted to step out from behind the curtain so you could actually SEE your readers? Asked readers to step from the shadows to identify/describe themselves to you somehow?
I am a fan of CSI (the original) set in Vegas. I have never seen a new episode, just reruns out of order so I never really know how old Katherine’s hairdo is or whether or not Sarah and Grissom are, well, you know.
I suspend belief for an hour to consider that forensics departments really could solve the mystery, the question asked in The Who song which is the show’s theme.
When I blog, I wish that I could glimpse my readers for a second or two.
If you are reading this, would you tell me what you do (professionally) or what hobbies you enjoy? Would you reveal if you are a parent or child or grandparent?
Or would you just tip me off as to why you read this and other blogs? Or tell me if you are typically a lurker-reader or a commenting-reader? Or tell me how many blogs you read? Or tell me if you blog yourself?
I don’t need to know your religious preference, political party, nationality, gender, race, married, divorced, gay or straight or any other personal information. But if you want to tell me that, I’ll listen to it all.

23yr old computer geek trying to figure out how I fit into this big crazy world. Hobbies include spending hours in the kitchen, hiking, and I’m starting to get into photography.
No kids yet, though two dogs should rate pretty close. Currently engaged to a great gal, been together almost 6 years. Religion: Open to everything. Politics: not open to anything. Born and bred here in Arizona.
I subscribed to your blog when you put up some of my restaurant reviews.
More of a lurker than a commenter.

81-yr-old widow and, recently, orphaned (my mom just died at 104); former trade magazine editor in the Big City (Chicago). Lived here in Prescott since 1985 & so I’ve seen changes, good and bad. One daughter, one stepson, 3 grandchildren.
I’ve been blogging for about 1 year, though my late husband had me working on computers in the 70s (home-brew stuff). Otherwise I am into lazy gardening, SF, nature, topo maps, a smidge of history, and things local.

47-year old blogger of the now defunct blog A Hole in the Fence. I’ve been researching a VA business, so I came across your blog last year and have been reading it since. I am a mom and read a lot of parenting blogs, but I’m moving away from that and focusing more on VA- and freelance-related info. I am currently working as a technical writer, which I’ve been doing for about 22 years. wow… I can’t believe 22 years have gone by.
Thanks for the great blog!

Dear Tombo, GrannyJ and Sophie,
The diversity the three of you represent is what is so amazing about blogging – connecting up people who may never have met in the first place.
I loved Hole in the Fence, Sophie, and am sad it is gone.
Thanks to all of you for your comments.

Katie,
I hope I’m not too late to comment on this thread.
I am a rather new virtual assistant that has just started my own blog: http://vsvas.wordpress.com/ and came upon your blog by doing a Google search. Interesting category, “blogging tips and resources” since I am always on the lookout for new information.
I am a 50 y/o part time elementary teacher and just started my VA practice a year ago. Since I learned about blogging, and have a writer’s heart, it seemed a perfect fit for me. I love your FAQ’s page and would like to see you keep on top of it–it is very helpful for new VAs or people researching the industry.
I decided to run with the theme of my own journey into the VA world a year ago for my blog entries, and as I go along and learn new things, sharing my personal experiences. I wish I knew more about “pings” and “blogrolls,” and how to include them, but I’m sure I will learn as I go.
I would consider myself a lurker and a commenter, as I am always trying to learn new skills. By the way, this is my first visit to your excellent blog.
Happy Writing!

Teri, never too late!
The FAQ page welcomes other q’s and a’s from practicing VAs, so please send any you craft.
Because both of us are former teachers AND enjoy writing, I think we should stay in touch!
I’m off to visit your site. Oh, that is after morning errands in the still slightly cool morning air!
