Are You a Virtual Assistant Fashionista? A Collaborative Series
When you work from home, it is easy to descend into personal appearance sloppiness.
While you may consider working in your pajamas to be a definite advantage of the SOHO (“small office/home office”) life (wardrobe budget = $0.00, unless you have a PajamaGram.com or Company Store habit), pj’s as a fashion statement doesn’t work if a client stops by unexpectedly or you find you need to leave the premises suddenly.
I even believe that sloppy dressing detracts from your mindset, so that you approach the work day with a casual, not professional outlook.
I will concede that snow days are meant for bathrobes and slippers, whether you are sewing, drinking tea, or working on a project, but in general, I think you will perform better if you dress like you mean business.
You may no longer need an expensive wardrobe of shoes and suits, but you can make the most of what you own, and pair things up in new ways if you take a day or two to review and edit the contents of your closet.
Let’s have some fun with this. In the coming days I’ll present a series that includes:
1. Reviewing and Editing your wardrobe
2. Scrutinizing/Updating what you are keeping
3. Packing for a Trip
I’ll be crossing my fingers that I hear from some people who have devised their own successful approach to this challenge, and will include quotes and contact information from those who contribute.

You are right Katie. It was hard enough dragging myself out of bed on cold/rainy days preparing and heading out to the 9 to 5. I would not even consider working at my home office in my pj’s or any comfortable (aka – slouchy) attire. I can see me now back in bed within minutes (lol). I get up and start my day the same as I would it I were going to work at a firm, even if there are no appointments scheduled.
