Tara and I took this episode’s theme to heart and made sure that portions of it were recorded in numerous locations: her office, my office, a local restaurant, and in Phoenix Arizona. While we were out and about we had a terrific time and hope you’ll enjoy the varied locations, too. Contents:
- Discussion on the challenges and changing definition of professionalism whether in or outside the office.
- Our interviews with Jeannine Clontz, VA Biz Coach (and this month’s episode sponsor) and Jennifer Holstad of A Byte in Time.
- Our monthly listeners’ poll, asks: How do you cover your office when you are away?
- How to win coffee or tea on Tara and Katie: (a) comment on the show here (respond to our poll question, tell us something that helped, or didn’t, or what you’d like to hear next time), OR, (b) leave your comment over on the AZVAs FaceBook page, OR, (c) simply review the podcast when listening to it on iTunes)!

When I leave my office on vacation in the summer, I tell my clients that I will be out of my office one day earlier then I really intend to leave because there is always that last minute project that a client absolutely has to have. When I do this, I can actually leave on the day and time I really wanted to. I also let them know that I have another VA that can handle their projects while I am gone and give them the contact information. Going to the IVAA Summit gives you the opportunity to meet other VAs in person and connect with them so you have more people that can be your backup person or help you with overflow work. I also leave a message on my phone that states the office is closed and will reopen on a certain date and that if their work cannot wait until the office reopens, they can contact the other VAs that I have lined up to handle my workload while I am gone. I may check my emails or phone messages while I am gone, but I will not do work as it is a family vacation. Thus, having other VAs lined up has helped with this.
