Has your blogging pace waned?

126 spams. 1,314 spams. 471 spams. Lately this is what Akismet tells me when I log on to the backend of my blog. End result: spending more time pondering whether my blog is here for the sole purpose of giving spammers target practice than I do working on new posts.
Then there’s lure of social media. Spending a little (ok, or a LOT) more time over there, a little (same deal, a LOT) less around here and next thing you know, your SERPS are taking a falling star’s trajectory.
Let’s say not only has your site traffic ebbed, but your revenues are on that same downward dive. And who isn’t facing that reality?
So, it’s summer and you can make lemonade. These new realities are also fodder for some good blog posts:
- Testing new marketing strategies
- Rearranging your work day to include more actual living since you have less work.
- Reallocating your funds so that your budget better fits these times.
- Setting up your new home office after having shuttered your brick-and-mortar location.
- Defining a new client niche if your old base has eroded.
- Redefining your business entirely, and the subsequent branding makeover.
In the knitting groups I frequent, one or another of us will often launch a “knit-along,” wherein a pattern is identified, a schedule established, and then we all work together to help keep up the pace until every one has finished and shared their object.
What about a “blog-along,” in which we all explore the same topic for a couple of weeks an then move onto another?
Tackling #1 from the list above, let’s spend the next week (June 16 – June 23) discussing our experiments with new marketing strategies for these times.
Blog your post on this topic, or create a link-y post pointing to other posts that are already all over this topic. Then, comment to lead readers to your post, or tweet it, or announce it however you prefer.

I think that in today’s “economy” we have to be willing to be a little brave in some aspects: maybe now is the time to try X..
and also to know when to close down an avenue that isn’t working…
and start to listen to our intuition/gut when it comes to making decisions.

Julie, let me know when you have a blog post fleshing out this topic and I’ll link to it! Thank you for your quick reply.

I can’t speak for any other type of blogger but I know for political bloggers the term “herding cats” comes to mind.
One of the ways we organize around a specific topic is to have a “blogswarm.” We all blog about a specific topic, piece of legislation, social issue, etc. The blogswarms either last one day or over a weekend only. In the past I’ve kept a blog with links to those participating but next year I think I’ll just use a twitter hashtag.
Blogging is different than knitting in that you don’t have a finished sock at the end, sigh.
Glad to catch up with your blog it’s been a busy summer. I feel like I’ve spent more time this summer in Chicago than at home, but that’s a very good thing.

BG, good to hear from you! Good suggestion for blogswarming within the VA community, or for any entrepreneur.
I hope to sneak away for a Chicago visit before the end of the year. Maybe this time a certain mutual loved one will enable us to occupy the same space at the same time?!
