Commenting Policy

Larry’s opinion of comment spamI’ve been reviewing other site’s commenting policies but I have to say this: to those spammers out there, why don’t you cut it out!? You’re wasting everybody’s time and that’s not very nice.

I have experimented with no moderation and a little moderation but it seems like you can’t win! Some folks become so incensed that they are asked to register to leave a comment that they refuse to comment but DO email me to tell me so. But when you turn off all moderation, you spend way too much time removing spam.

Another site, Happy & Blue, does a great job of explaining WordPress comment moderation and why it is necessary.

In the coming months I will, no doubt, hash out a professional-sounding policy, and I will probably post it here, but why is this even necessary?!? If people showed respect and common courtesy to others, we wouldn’t have to spend our already-busy-enough days and nights working out policies.

For now my policy is that you have to look at my brother, Larry, making a face to register his opinion on this topic.
