Loosely Knit: Cascade Pearls “Soleil” completed!
About six inches into the design, I felt I had chosen the wrong yarn for this project. As a summer tank, it needs to be UNbulky, and for an under layer in the winter, it needed sleekness. Plus, once I found the right needles to achieve the gauge, the thick/thin nature of Cascade pearls (I used color 2868, a nice denimy, mottled blue) seemed like it would hide the lace border completely.
Now that it’s finished and blocked, I am thrilled with the outcome. A little too decolleté for some occasions, but perfect shape and size.
A big plus: I wore it during the Arizona – Miami Super Regional matchup last night and the right team won, so….
Up next: finish Hempathy socks, then start something new!
Soleil was designed by Alexandra Virgiel and I found it on Knitty.

Oh that’s beautiful – how long did it take you? I love Knitty but I’m never sure of which yarns to use because suggested brand names often aren’t available downunder (I’m in Australia). This is a great example of perserverance.

Lorraine, thank you for the feedback. This one went very quickly, once I convinced myself to use Cascade Pearls. I didn’t think the lace edging would be visible with this thick/thin yarn, and I’ve made more than one bad yarn substitution in my day!
I think I finished it in about 3 – 4 weeks, working on it off and on around other projects.
Thanks again for writing. I would like to see some of your knitting!
