1600 Miles From Home

When travelling from Crescent City, CA (at left is a view of the route we took) this morning, I saw lots of references to tsunami evacuation routes. How many people realize that tsunami hit that part of the coast in 1964, killing 11 people?

During today’s travel, we passed through Grants Pass, Eugene, Portland (where I had the best sushi ever at a fabulous grocery store near campus) and then FINALLY made it to Bellingham at 7:30 at night. We had planned to arrive at Orcas Island today, but are a bit behind schedule. Tomorrow the ferry out to the islands. AND some pictures from the road.

If you are ever in Grants Pass, Oregon stop at the Dutch Bros. Coffee drive-thru kiosk. It’s great! A quick photo of our barristas at that stop appears at right. Coming from Prescott means we have experience with just one drive-thru kiosk. It’s really true that they’re all over the place in the Pacific Northwest.
