Fall Business Housekeeping Chores

lifeofvaicon.jpgIn my business, I notice a little lull in the Fall. Whether due to families getting their kids back to school and adjusting to their homework and extracurricular activities or people getting ready for hunting season, or maybe just the loveliness of the changing season, things quiet down a little bit at Loose Ends.

When that happens, it’s wise to look around and see what needs to be done in or around your office, saving you from commotion when things get busy again.

Compounding the organization challenge for SOHO workers is the fact that a lack of organization within your household can spill over onto your office, resulting in a less effective you!

Here are a few tips:

1. Check your roof and repair any leaks before the onset of winter.

2. Examine your financial statements so you can be ready to make end-of-the-year equipment purchases or calculate how much you want to be able to put in your IRA for this calendar year.

3. Are you happy with your tax accountant? If not, you can spend some time now finding a new one before the year ends.

4. Begin to identify business goals for the next year.

5. Make note of organizational problems that have plagued you this year so you can solve them now and avoid letting them drag you down for another year.

6. Read a business management book that will inspire you to look at your business systems from a fresh perspective. (Got any suggestions? Please share them via commenting below.)

7. If you are one who gives client gifts or sends holiday cards, look over your list of recipients and get that task underway.

8. Do you need a new professional photo of yourself taken? Schedule it now.

9. Plan your holidays and weekends away for the coming year. If you have that all on your calendar, you can avoid potentially costly expenditures by avoiding such goofs as taking a two-week’s vacation just before your quarterly estimated taxes are due.

10. Spend a little time at OnlineOrganizing.com to review some other ways to get organized, both in the office and around the house.
