What’s in the Glass? The Starbucker Meme.
Ahhh. A meme. Dawud passed it my way, “it” having originated with Starbucker.
The questions go like this, with my answers following, italicized:
1. How full is your glass?
Just half, as you can see.
2. What kind of glass is it?
A vintage candlewick pattern goblet, one of a set of a dozen that I acquired from my gramma, and which lives in her china cabinet at my house.
3. What’s in the glass?
Sea glass, seashells, stones, sand dollars all treasures collected on the beach in Mexico, California, and Washington state over the years, with a couple of amethysts tossed in.
4. Reasons for #1, #2, and #3.
As for 1: There is always room for more, in terms of our growing family, future holidays spent on the Pacific, and odd little treasures waiting there to be discovered.
As for 2: I lived with my gramma and grandpa when I was very small and always remembered this stemware. I don’t think I was ever considered old enough to open the china cabinet and get out the best dishes and glasses. Now that my gramma’s treasures live with me (I’m lucky to have been the only daughter, granddaughter, and niece in our family!) and I am, myself, a gramma, I must open it up at least once a day, to get out lovely old linens and to handle the dishes that were so dear to gramma.
And, finally 3: As a Pisces-Aquarius-cusp of a girl, amethysts and water have always been precious. Particularly since I have lived in Arizona for the last 34 years, and we don’t have that much water here and our main semiprecious stones are turquoise!
Each little item collected on the beach reminds me of the magical time when my children were growing up, and those yet-to-be-lived times that lay ahead with their children.
Sandblasted bits of glass that were tossed in the waves have probably traveled farther than I ever will in my life, but serve as a crystal clear (glass-like!) reminder of what life has to offer and all that is left to come.
I lift this half-full goblet in honor of a the passage of time!
And now, my tag-you’re-its:
Linda,
Granny J,
Amber,
Skyla, and
Marek
And, just for instructional purposes if you haven’t been “tagged” before, Starbucker says to do this: “If those I tag could tag five in their response, link back to the originator (yours truly), etc……….I think we all know the drill. I promise to collate all the responses to create a “cornucopia of glass” - a blogospheric mosaic, so to speak.”

Thanks for participating in this meme - what a great response! I believe you are the first who didn’t put a liquid in their glass. I loved the symbolism of all those beach collections. I lift my half-full shot glass of lemonade to you! I hope to get; my mosaic put together soon, once the meme plays itself out a bit more. Until then, thanks again and all the best!

Terry, Thanks for the input. I was asking Dawud if he actually emailed those he tagged if he thought that the links he set up was enough? In “meming” it seems as though you tread the line between those tagged being happy you chose the vs. those who are simply annoyed. What has your experience been?
Can’t wait to see the mosaic.

Love that you used your Grandmother’s glass with your found treasures. And that it’s half full with room for treasures yet to be found.
I lived with my Grandparents as a young child, too and t treasure the thingsI have that were my Grandmothers.

Linda, We should do a Gramma show-and-tell one of these days, especially since we are both Grandmother’s ourselves. Looking forward to your meme answers…
