When my kids were home for a visit recently, we spent some time looking through some dusty old family photos.

These two images took me back to a July forty-six summers ago, when I entered my first contest. So convinced was I that I would the first prize, that I wrote to my aunt and uncle in Colorado to ask if I could put my pony on a train (after I won him) so he could go west and live with their other horses.

I remember being outside playing baseball at dusk, hearing my mom hollering, “Katherine Ann!” Boy, you knew you were busted when your mom called you home that way.

Except I wasn’t busted; I was a winner, and Captain Vern was calling from Davenport, Iowa to tell me so.

What lesson did I take from that? If I can envision something, it can happen.

Here’s to YOUR being a winner!

Oh, and related to this: you have a chance to win a full conference pass to Blog World Expo, in Vegas September 20 & 21. Just drop by Problogger to read how to enter to win!
