Blogging software vs. html

Is it better to use TypePad (or Moveable Press or Wordpress or any of the others) for blogging or stick with html? Seriously.

I don’t know ANYBODY who blogs using html. I do it because: a. I started a blog before I knew about blogging software, back in 2004; b. Intuitively, I thought I’d get and maintain better page ranking for my website if I did it all by hand.

The downsides to doing it “the old fashioned way” are that it takes longer. I have to first make the change to the html page, then create an rss feed page, then upload everything. Forget about quick and easy topics and dates for the archives. Have to manage all that (and the links to them) by hand, too. Yuk.

Clients that didn’t jump on the discussion forum bandwagon or start articles archives are now really getting interested in blogging (you know who you are!). I figured I had to try out one of these formats and after reading BlogWild by Andy Wibbels, decided I have to try it.

My plan is to run two blogs with the same name for a month and see what happens. I have a lot to learn about this interface, and probably NObody will be reading it, but I’ll try it out and see.
